History of Clover, SC

Before the town existed, the Chester and Lenoir Narrow Gauge Railroad passed through the area. A tank capable of holding thousands of gallons of water was built there to service the passing trains, and a town formed around it. Legend states that consistent spillage of water from the tank allowed  splotches of clover to grow, which led to the name of the town.
