About Mount Holly

As is the case with much of the Charlotte area and her inhabitants, Mount Holly has history rooted in the Northeastern United States. The town built a cotton mill in 1875, and named both the building and the town after a similar mill community in Mount Holly, New Jersey.

Regardless of origin, all ten letters of this town's name (Mount Holly, not Mt. Holly!) speak to the tranquility it houses. The town is just on the Gaston county side of the border with Mecklenburg County, but Charlotte feels worlds away. Mount Holly's motto is "Connecting Community and Nature," which their Parks and Recreation department does effectively. The children and adults of Mount Holly are provided the opportunity to play basketball, baseball, soccer, and volleyball in leagues organized by the town. In addition, Mount Holly offers several public parks and the Tailrace Marina, a public marina on the Catawba River which rents kayaks, paddle boards, and canoes.
